What types of shades does the VELUX Shade Shop offer?

The VELUX Shade Shop carries three types of shades: light-filtering shades, room-darkening shades and Venetian shades. Light-filtering shades and room-darkening shades are available in both solar-powered and manual styles.

Can I install VELUX shades myself?

Yes! All VELUX shades are designed to fit our skylights and can be installed in a matter of minutes thanks to the patented VELUX Pick&Click!™ system. This pre-fitted bracket system comes built into your skylight, making it easy to achieve a perfect fit every time. See how it works here. You can also have a VELUX installer help insert your shades during a service visit for a fixed price regardless of where you live.

What is the Pick&Click!® system?

Our patented Pick&Click! system is designed to make shade installation easier and quicker than ever. VELUX skylights include brackets built right in to make shade installation a snap. VELUX shades are sized to fit, so installation requires only a few screws, with no cutting or adjustment of the shades required. See how it works here.

How much do shades cost?

The pricing for shades compatible with VELUX skylights varies depending on the shade type (blackout, light filtering, Venetian), how it operates (solar power or manual) and your skylight model and size. Are solar-powered shades eligible for the federal tax credit?

Can I add a shade to an older/existing skylight?

Shades can be included during installation or easily added on at a later time in most cases. To better assist you in finding the right shade for your skylight, find your product ID and identify the serial number on your skylight. Once you have your serial number, contact one of our specialists to help find the shades to fit your needs.

Can I convert manual shades into electric shades?

No, a manual shade cannot be converted to an electric or solar-powered shade. The manual shade must be removed and replaced with a solar-powered or electric shade with an electric power supply.

Can I get shade samples?

Yes, though restrictions may apply. To order shade samples, please call customer service at 800-888-3589, Monday–Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. or Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET.

What is a light-filtering shade?

A light-filtering shade is made up of a series of single pleats. It softens and diffuses the natural light that will enter the room and is perfect for kitchens and living rooms.

What is a room-darkening shade?

Room-darkening skylight shades are double pleated and feel cloth-like. These shades feature a honeycomb structure that can improve your energy performance by up to 45%! It is available in manual or solar-powered options.
